Falling in Love with Your New Home

Valentine’s Day is here and love is in the air! If you just committed to a new home, then it’s like those first heady days in a new relationship. You’ve seen some things that have sparked your interest, you decided to make the leap, and now you’re ready to settle in. But things don’t always go so smoothly in a new relationship or a new home. It can be a roller coaster of emotions. One minute you’re excited and signing papers and the next minute you may be questioning if you’ve made the right choice for the long haul. Fortunately, there are things you can do to help ease the transition into your new place. If you’ve just moved into a new home, then here’s how to fall deeply in love with it.

Unpack

Your new house certainly won’t feel like home if you’re living out of cardboard boxes. That’s why it’s essential to unpack as soon as possible. While we understand that unpacking may not be the most enjoyable task on your to-do list, it’s the best thing you can do to get settled into your new home quickly.

Paint

Creating a space that reflects your personality and tastes is key to falling in love with your home. And one of the most effective  – and inexpensive – ways to do this is with a can of paint. Painting a room (or two or three!) will help you put your own mark on your new home. A fresh coat of paint in a color you love will quickly transform any room and make it feel like yours.

Personalize

Another easy way to start falling in love with your new home is to personalize it. This can be a very simple process. Begin by displaying cherished family photos. Add some of your kids’ drawings to the fridge. Fill your shelves and tabletops with souvenirs and other favorite knick-knacks. Once you begin to surround yourself with the things you already love, you’ll begin to feel at home. You may even plan remodels and home additions to make your home suit your needs.

Get cozy

Creating a cozy atmosphere will help to inspire those romantic feelings you’re looking for. Start with the right lighting. Instead of using overhead lights which can be harsh, use ambient light around your home. This can include table lamps, sconces, or even string lights. Candles – either the real things or the flameless varieties – will instantly cozy up your space. Fresh flowers or a new houseplant will also help to create a soft and inviting vibe in your new home. Don’t forget about your outdoor spaces! Hire an asphalt paving contractor to redo or at least fix any cracks or holes in your driveway and sidewalk. If there are trees in your yard, you may hire a tree services company to trim their branches and make your yard look more spacious and well-maintained.

Check out the neighborhood

You didn’t just buy a new house. You joined a new community. So get out there and see what it has to offer! Maybe there’s a delightful coffee shop around the corner where you can stop in for your favorite latte. Or perhaps there’s a wonderful community center in the neighborhood where you can sign up for classes or clubs to meet some of your new neighbors. Get out there and explore! You’ll no doubt find many things that will help you build your love affair with your new home. Enjoy!
